kazeem uses two techniques of paper batik:
variant 1:
a first sketch of the motif is drawn and worked out with ink and charcoal. hot wax is then applied to certain areas with a brush or a foam wedge. the paper is then "crumpled". after being strengthened once more with wax, colour is applied again in the next step. once the sheet has dried, the wax is ironed out with paper.
variant 2:
first, a coloured ground is prepared. the motif is then drawn, again with ink and charcoal. to achieve the typical batik effect, the sheet is "crumpled" again. with a further layer of wax, colour is once more blown or sprayed over the picture. the wax is then ironed out.
